Beef Tomato curry

  • 1 kg (2 lb )beef
  • 4 medium-sized tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger paste
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic
  • ½ cup finely chopped onion
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 cardamoms
  • 3 sticks 2.5 cm piece cinnamon
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon paprika or chili powder
  • ½ cup cooking oil
  • Salt to taste



Place the meat, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, bay leaf salt and half of the oil in a pan. Mix them well. Add 3 cups of water. Cover and cook over moderate heat until the meat is tender.

In a separate pan heat rest of the oil. Fry the onion golden brown. Add the tomatoes and fry for a few minutes. Add the meat and paprika, stir and fry for 10 to 15 minutes. Add 1-2 cups of water and keep covered over low heat for 20 to 25 minutes.
