Batter fried fish
  •  450 g (1 lb) fish fillet or steak
  •  1 tablespoon lemon juice
  •  ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  •  ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
  •  ½ teaspoon chilli powder
  •  2 cups flour
  •  1 teaspoon sugar
  •  ½ teaspoon ground black pepper oil for frying
  •  Salt to taste


Cod, whiting, sprat, herring, hilsa, rui, katla , pangash are fishes that are good for frying .Scale (if necessary), clean and slice (steak or fillet) the fish. Rinse and drain water . Rub the lemon juice and solt on the fish, marinate for 10 minutes.

Add 1 teaspoon of salt, black pepper and ¼ cup of oil to the flour and mix thoroughly. Add about 1 cup of water to make a thick batter so that it binds with the fish.

Combine all the ground spices and rub on the fish. Dip one piece of fish into the batter.fry in deep fat evenly brown and crisp. Strain oil and remove on an absorbent kitchen paper.

Finally: Serve with mayonnaise or tomato catsup and kashmiri achar.
